Good morning everybody and welcome again to The Bearded Handballer’s blog!

How is your beard journey going so far? Is your scruff healthy and strong?
I really hope so and, above all, I hope you are finding my reviews useful for your beard care routine!

As you might have read in my Instagram account and in previous blog posts, this is a quite intense period for me. Besides the work load related to my job, I am currently working at some future projects and developing some new ideas (stay tuned to know more). Each week is pretty intense and I spend most of the evening in front of my PC or smartphone, trying to generate the best from my platforms.
For this reason, I decided to have a break and to spend the last weekend in a completely different way: on Saturday I walked for 25 miles in the Chilterns while, on Sunday, I attended BarberUK, a fantastic exhibition dedicated to the amazing world of barbering (keep an eye out for the full event report, soon online!).

Despite the busy period, I always find time for some high quality beard care routine and today I want to post my review for one of the beard oil I have been using in the last week: “1013” by Sweyn Foarkbeard.

As explained in a previous review about their “British Gentleman” beard balm, this is an English brand inspired by the homonym Viking warrior and king. Famous for his particular beard and immaculate hair (even during the battles!), Sweyn Forkbeard was crowned “King of England” in 1013! In my opinion, the brilliant choice of naming this product with such a significant date represents an important element, showing the brand’s attention to the cultural aspect behind their business.

The “1013” beard oil is contained in a 30 mL amber glass bottle with a practical pipette. The label has the standard layout and structure, typical of all the beard grooming products of the brand: the logo of the company, the name of the product and the “100% Natural” badge, very useful to define and communicate easily the nature of the article. With its simple but distinguishing design, the label is extremely effective and representative.

With regards to fragrances, Sweyn Forkbeard offers a wide variety of scents: from the warm and woody ones, to the more refreshing options. As you can imagine, deciding to pick one was not an easy task and the final choice was possible thanks to Nick’s patient and professional assistance. One of the funniest thing is that “1013” was the last product I smelled along the series… And it was the winning one!
As soon as I opened the bottle, a refreshing breeze captured my senses. The citrusy aroma of Lemongrass creates a sparkling and invigorating background that melts perfectly with the herbaceous nature of Tea tree oil. The presence of the Juniper berry essence, reinforce the earthy and woody side of the latter and contributes in creating an extremely enjoyable fragrance with a pronounced Summer character.
Extremely pleasant when smelled from the container, it release all its inner intensity once rubbed between the palm and applied on the beard. Thanks to its fresh and crisp character, this beard oil was always able to wake me up after my morning shower!

Having being positively surprised and impressed by the incredible effect of the beard balm, my expectations for this beard oil were extremely high…
… Once again I was not disappointed at all!!!
Thanks to the presence of four different carrier oils, the formula of “1013” resulted extremely effective and powerful for my beard. The presence of Argan oil provides high levels of linoleic and oleic acids, ensuring both moisturising and protecting effects. With its high content in hydrating and nourishing factor, Jojoba oil generates the well-known conditioning effect for the facial hair. Moreover, thanks it particular composition, this ingredients has an important effect in regulating the production and secretion of the sebum (natural oils produced by the skin). Ricinoleic acid is one of the main components of Castor oil: this fatty acid is frequently used in hair products because it has an important role in improving hair growth and strength. Avocado oil represent the cherry on top: rich in Vitamins (A, B, C and, above all, E) minerals and proteins, it has an highly nourishing action that is beneficial to keep the scruff in a healthy state.
Although fundamental for the aromatic side of the product, the Lemongrass essential oil plays a crucial role also on the beard care side. Thanks to its well-known antispectic character, it support the anti-inflammatory action of the linoleic acid (supplied by the various carrier oils) making the “1013” beard oil by Sweyn Forkbeard very protective for both skin and hair.
The oil does not have a thick consistency but, thanks to the very accurate selection and dosage of the ingredients, it discipline effectively the facial hair helping the styling process (combing/brushing).
In terms of effectiveness and performance, this beard oil has shown an incredible and very impressive profile: applied after the morning shower, it was able to keep my beard soft and tidy till late night, whatever the external conditions (dry environment, rain, warm temperatures, workout/training stress, etc.).

In conclusion, I consider this beard oil another confirmation of Sweyn Forkbeard’s high standard. The careful selection, combination and dosage of high quality ingredients, along with the remarkable effect on the scruff, testify the attention of this brand in producing reliable products. This aspect was confirmed by the lovely chat I had the opportunity to have with George, the owner of the company. Besides being a real gentlemen, he is an expert guy with a very good knowledge of ingredient and formulas… An aspect that makes me always very happy!

Well done Sweyn Forkbeard!

In which particular occasion would The Bearded Handballer use this product?
I don’t know if this is mainly due to the fact that I am really forward for my Summer holidays, but the scent of this beard oil is perfect for a lovely nightout by the beach… possibly drinking a nice refreshing cocktail!
