Good morning everybody, you great bearded heroes!

Thank you very much for visiting The Bearded Handballer again! How are you all doing? Are your beard growing strong and healthy in this amazing summer weather?

It’s been a long time since the last post but, as most of you might already know, I’ve been on holiday and took a proper break to recharge my batteries…
Did it work?
Well, absolutely no! In fact, as soon as I was back, I had to start working intensively to some very important project for my job and this took most of my time.

Nevertheless, a long silence does not mean that the beard grooming side was left behind! During my last vacation+hard work period, I had the opportunity to test and analyse some extremely interesting products (so stay tuned!!!).

Thus, for today’s review I want to give you my opinion about the “Camden Giving” beard oil by Sweyn Forkbeard.

This beard oil was released by the well-known beard brand to support Camden Giving, a charity that aims to build networks between people living in the borough of Camden, in order to overcome any kind of inequality.
Personally, I consider this kind of objectives amazing and very important and, for this reason, I decided to contribute in supporting this project by buying the beard oil as soon as it was released.

Differently from other Sweyn Forkbeard articles, I purchased this online. Besides the extremely quick delivery (I received the parcel after 2 days from my order), I was very impressed by the quality of the parcel. The solid cardboard box with the logo of the company contained a wide variety of objects.
The 30 mL amber glass bottle was contained in a beautiful jute bag with the iconic representation of the first Viking King of England.
Along with the product, the manufacturer included two stickers, an informative flyer (very well designed and organised) and two flower-shaped soaps… Isn’t it great?
In my previous reviews (‘British Gentlemen’ beard balm and the ‘1013’ beard oil) I already highlighted the incredible attention to the details characterising Sweyn Forkbeard: the nice packet confirms this idea and demonstrates the importance of the presentation of the product, from a passionate customer point of view.

But, we all know that The Bearded Handballer is very interested in the ingredients and the effects of the product… So let’s go though them!

From a structural point of view, the carrier oils contained in the “Camden Giving” beard oil are pretty similar to those encountered when analysing the ‘1013‘ one. The combination of Argan, Jojoba, Avocado and Castor oils has a wide variety of beneficial effects for both the skin and the facial hair.
If we look at the fatty component, it is possible to notice a high and extremely variegated list of fatty acids:

  • Oleic (omega-9)
  • Linoleic (omega-6)
  • Gondoic (omega-9)
  • Erucic (omega-9)
  • Ricinoleic (omega-9)

Fundamental for the hydration of the skin, they also play an important role in conditioning the facial hair.
With its particular composition, Jojoba is frequently used in cosmetics to regulate the natural secretion  of the sebum while Castor oil (with its Ricinoleic acid) is well-known for its strengthening and anti-dandruff effect on the hair.
Different Vitamines, proteins and minerals (particularly concentrated in the Avocado oil) act as nourishing, soothing and protective factors, especially against the UV rays.
The ‘Camden Giving’ oil was tested for 17 days and I had the opportunity to check its performance at different environmental conditions (low and high temperature, dry and very moist environments). In any case, this beard oil showed a very effective profile keeping my beard soft and well-hydrated for the whole day. Incredibly efficient during the hot days of my vacation in Southern Italy (with peaks of 40 degrees), it was also impressive during long days in the office/laboratory with the air conditioning on.

Inspired by the ‘charity side’ of this product, I did not check its aromatic profile before the purchase. For this reason, my curiosity reached the top when I read this was a mix of Rosemary and Lemon. As soon as I opened the bottle for the first time, I was immediately enraptured by the perfectly balanced scent. The zesty and tones of the Lemon peel oil create a fresh and vivid base that fits perfectly with the woody and herbaceous notes of the Rosemary. Despite being the only essential oils, their perfect dosage is able to generate a very pleasant harmony of sensations that makes this aroma suitable for any season of the year. An interesting aspect to be noted is the fact that the Rosemary Leaf essential oil has been frequently reported as a possible stimulant for hair growth.

In conclusion, I consider the ‘Camden Giving‘ beard oil another great product demonstrating, once again, the high standard and reliability of Sweyn Forkbeard.
I had the possibility to talk with George (the head of the company) at BarberUK and I have to admit that the passion behind this brand is truly incredible: the careful selection of the ingredients, the attention to the different aspect of each article and the constant desire to offer the best quality are just few examples of their philosophy.

Curiosity: George told me that he prepared three different scents for this project and that, at the end, the people from Camden Giving chose the ‘Rosemary & Lemon” one. I have to admit that I am very very curious to know the other fragrances! 😀
