Good morning everybody and welcome again to The Bearded Handballer!

How are you doing? Did you already start feeling the Summer vibes in the air? Are you ready to show your majestic beards on the beach?

Here at TBH headquarter the Summer atmosphere is at its top: in few days, I will go on holiday and I really cannot wait for it! In fact, this will be my first proper Summer vacations after 2 years of unstoppable work: writing scientific papers, traveling and moving abroad for a short scientific mission (Belgium), writing my thesis for my PhD, attending various interviews for a job, moving to a new town, starting a new job, the final examination for my PhD… These are just few of the activities that made my 2018 and half of the 2019 extremely exciting but also very busy and tiring… I think it is quite pointless to state that I am really looking forward to my short ‘pause’!

During this “break”, I will be traveling a lot in Southern Italy and then I will also spent a little bit of time in my beloved hometown. Besides trying to enjoy every single second of my vacation, I will indeed carry on all the beard-related activities: I have already planned some “special” posts, I already prepared some products that I will take with me in order to test them… and I also have some upcoming surprises that I will announce as soon as possible! So stay tuned and you will know more about it!

But now let’s go back to our business and let’s focus on the topic of this post.
Today I want to give you my personal opinion about my experience with the ‘Citrus Tonicbeard wax by Seven Potions.

This product was part of a very nice parcel John (head of the company) kindly  sent to me in February, at the beginning of my beard grooming reviewer career. During the last months I have been using this product at different times, testing various methods and checking its performance under different conditions… And now it’s time for me to report the  results of this accurate and meticulous analysis.

The ‘Citrus Tonicbeard wax is contained in a 30 mL metal tin with the typical screw cap. The label is perfectly in line with those previously encountered with the other Seven Potions’ products (oil, balm and shampoo). The bright yellow background, the simple but very organised structure and the clear fonts used for the different writings  create a modern but elegant layout, with all the relevant information.

From my point of view, the formulation is indeed one of the most interesting aspect of this beard was. Differently from a beard balm and thanks to its important content in Beeswax (Cera Alba), this products has a harder texture and a stronger hold (defined  ‘medium’ by the manufacturer). The presence of this ingredient, along with the Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) wax and Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) oil, create an extremely effective sealing effect resulting  in a very prolonged moisturising action for both the skin and the beard.  Contained also in the balm (the other semi-solid formulation offered by Seven Potions), these components are differently dosed in the wax: this is the reason behind the different consistency and effect.
The presence of Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) oil ensure a high amount of saturated fatty acids (especially lauric, myristic and palmitic) fundamental for an effective hydrating action, especially in case of dry skin. This action is reinforced by the co-presence of Peach (Prunus Persica) kernel oil, an ingredient rich in unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic (omega-9) and linoleic (omega-6) acids. The inclusion of Avocado (Persea Gratissima) oil represent a briliant choice since it is a very well-know nourishing and strengthening agent for hair. Abundant in mono-unstaturated fatty acids (e.g. oleic and palmitoleic), it also contains a high amount of vitamins (E, A, B and C), minerals and proteins: for this reason, it pays a very important role in protecting, repairing and maintaining both the skin and the facial hair in a healthy state. This aspect is sustained also by the addition of pure natural Vitamin E. The protective and soothing actions are supported by the presence of Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) seed butter.
During the multi-phase and long period of use, I decided to carry out various test to evaluate the performance of the ‘Citrus Tonicbeard wax in different situations and conditions.

When used alone, the product is extremely effective in terms of both softening and styling properties. Applied after my ritual morning shower, it has always been able to maintain my beard hydrated and fluffy for the whole day: low temperatures did not affect at all the performance.
As an additional proof, I also tried a combination with the ‘Citrus Tonic’ beard oil (previously reviewed) by Seven Potions and I have to admit that the results were simply outstanding. The synergistic effect of the ingredients (sometimes complementary) of the two products determined even higher moisturising and nourishing outcomes.
One of the most interesting and surprising aspects it that such results can be easily obtained using a very small amount of product. If you are not used at this kind of hard texture, you might be tempted to overdose the amount applied on the beard: this is absolutely not needed. A limited quantity of wax, a vigorous rub between the palms of the hands (to allow the liquefaction) and a gentle massage in the beard will give the optimal results without any oily or greasy effect (possible side effects in case of overdosage).

The scent is part of the Seven Potions‘ ‘Citrus Tonic‘ line and, as for both the balm and the oil, it has a delicate and harmonised profile. The refreshing notes of the Lemon essential oil (indeed the main character) are well-balanced by the woody and sweet tones of Cedarwood oil. Differently from the balm, the dosage of the Beeswax has an effect also on the final scent: the ‘honey-like‘ character of this ingredient reinforce the sweet side of the scent. As a result, the combination of these element creates an aroma that is suitable for both cold or warm days.

In conclusion, I have been positively impressed by the performance of the ‘Citrus Tonicbeard wax by Seven Potions. Despite its description as a ‘Medium Hold’ product, I have been always able to  shape and tame my beard easily.
So if you are looking for a beard article that has the beneficial effect of an high quality balm and the ability to facilitate the styling process, this is indeed the one for you.

In which special occasion would The Bearded Handballer use this product?
Thanks to its incredible formulation and fantastic performance in terms of beard grooming, I highly recommend the ‘Citrus Tonic’ beard wax for those periods in which our facial hair cannot be easily tamed. Whether you are struggling because of those annoying middle length during the growing process or because of the harsh weather conditions, this product will easily keep your bear healthy, hydrated and in a perfect shape!
